A little about Timothy McVeigh
- Timothy was the middle child of three and the only boy.
- He grew up on Pendleton, N.Y.
- He was a fun and easy-to-like child.
- When he was 13, his grandpa gave him a .22 caliber rifle which was one of his first guns.
- When Timothy was in his teens, his parents divorced.
- On May 24, 1988, Timothy joined the Army where he could have a uniform, a gun, and an armored vehicle to drive around in.
- Timothy was obsessed with guns. He had spent a lot of his time looking into the Second Amendment.
- Timothy McVeigh died in Terre Haute, Indiana, strapped to a deathbed with a lethal IV line attached to a needle inserted into a vein. There were three injections: First, sodium pentothal to make him unconscious; second, pancuronium bromide to collapse his lungs; and last, potassium chloride to arrest his heart. The entire process should have taken less than 10 minutes. It was viewed live by 30 witnesses including 10 selected media reps. He was 33 years old and the first federal prisoner to be put to death since 1963.
Timothy McVeigh's last words....
Timothy's last words were in writing and were from a 1875 poem called Invictus which means unconquered. The poem is....
"Out of the night that covers me,
Black as the Pit from pole to pole,
I thank whatever gods may be
For my unconquerable soul.
In the fell clutch of circumstance
I have not winced not cried aloud.
Under the bludgeonings of chance
My head is bloody, but unbowed.
Beyond this place of wrath and tears
Looms but the Horror of the shade,
And yet the menace of the years
Finds, and shall find, me unafraid.
It matters not how strait the gate,
How charged with punishments the scroll,
I am the master of my fate;
I am the captain of my soul."
At the end he signed his name and put the date which was June 11, 2001.
