The Alfred P. Murrah Federal building was targeted to be bombed for revenge manly on the Waco, Texas Branch Davidian Compound and some also think for the Federal Raids in Ruby Ridge, Idaho. Timothy McVeigh told a friend that if he had known there was a daycare center in that Federal Building he would have chosen a different target instead. Timothy hated the government and hoped to have the government collapse.
This is the building in the Waco, Texas attack.
About the Waco, Texas shootout:
During the Waco, Texas shootout Weaver's wife and son were killed; also 75 members of the Branch Davidian religious group died. In all 76 people died. The leader of the group was David Koresh who was 33 years old. David was born in 1959 in Vernon Howell to Ms. Haldeman who was a single mother. The group had 120 members according to the New York Times and was made up of mostly white people in their 30's and 40's along with blacks from Jamaica and England, and Americans with diverse ethnic backgrounds and other people from half-dozen other foreign countries. David had starting calling himself the Messiah (God). In an excerpt from an audio tape for his followers, he said, "If the Bible is true, then I'm Christ." They say that he could have his Bible lectures last up to 17 hours long. The group was financed by money that the people had saved. The women of the group lived separately from the men except for David himself. He took any woman he wanted as a wife according to the New York Times. The women also were to work at home and do cooking also with teaching the children while the men did construction work and worked with David at his professional sound studio on about 150 melodic rock songs that conveyed his obscure messages according to the New York Times. Nobody really knows for sure why this shootout began in the first place.

How Timothy McVeigh got the idea of blowing up the Alfred P. Murrah Federal building:
Timothy got the idea from a movie and a book. The movie was one of his favorite called "Red Dawn." The movie as <crimelibrary> says is about a group of small town teens conversion to guerrilla fighters when foreign army invades America. The book he got the idea from was also one of his favorite books called The Turner Diaries by a former American Nazi Party honcho William L. Pierce, under the pen name Andrew Macdonald. Again <crimelibrary> says this was about the book's hero Earl Turner and how he responds to gun control by making a truck bomb and blowing up the Washington FBI building. Both of these story lines are very close to the Oklahoma City bombing events. Timothy also wanted to take action toward the government and wanted to have Terry Nichols and Michael Fortier to join and help him, but Fortier had refused.
